Wanting to explore the city to a wider extent, I walked to this fun and vibrant district. Here visitors will find the Japanese youth culture threaded through a multitude of tiny streets. Looking for boutique shopping and some amazing eateries? The wonderful world of Amerika-Mura in Osaka is not to be missed.

Thrift Shops

If you are in the market for second hand or thrifted clothing, you have come to the right place. There are so many shops here, full to the brim with clothing, shoes and accessories. I love the trends right now, very 80’s and early 90’s. Lots of mismatched pieces but wow, can the Japanese ever put an outfit together! They seem to have an innate sense of effortless style and its marvellous to see.

Boutique Shops

I fell in love with Amerika-Mura because of its unique and utterly charming boutique stores. Full of the funnest little trinkets, bits and bobs, not to mention the huge array of specialty hand made clothing. If I had any room in my suitcase, any at all, I would have spent my money here.

USA

Very American based, as the name implies. There are references to the US everywhere, painted on the walls, as statues, names of stores etc. I am surrounded by images of what America seems to be, if you are not familiar with it first hand.

You know, those patriotic symbols, sports loving fans, bright primary colours, and quaint western charm. It is fascinating to me to see these images portrayed into an entire neighbourhood. I just can’t wrap my mind around the reason why? What is the fascination with the States? Freedom perhaps? Money? The reality can be quite the opposite though. 🤷‍♀️

Culture

Once you have walked around for a while, you can definitely see that this ward would be a terrific place to hang out in the summer months. There is a central area with a sunken sort of stage pit, a perfect space for buskers and street performers.

Tall human stick figure street lamp standards add a creative touch down every single road and alley. Some street art is visible which adds to the creative feel. The very best is its people watching. I will never tire of watching street fashion at its finest, people’s interactions and life evolve around me.

Japan is a very special place. I can see why people fall in love with the country. There are some amazingly unique qualities about this city and country. Amerika-Mura is definitely a district within the city that should not be missed. Super fun, vibrant, youthful and full of attitude.
