This was a four-leg travel day for me and encompassed just about 44 hours from start to finish. I woke up at 3:18 am early one morning and didn’t sleep until 11pm the next night plus a 5-hour time difference. Travel with me, Cyprus to Vietnam via Bangkok.

Bus

First leg was a taxi that I had prebooked through my Airbnb host. The cost was high at €35 ($51 CAD) but a little less than if I had called a taxi on my own. This took me from my Airbnb in Chloraka to Paphos Airport.

Once at PFO, I hopped on a pr-booked bus from Paphos to Larnaca Airport (LCA) that cost €16 ($23 CAD). The ride was 1.5 hours long and we had one stop to exchange buses at one hour into the trip.

Both buses were clean, the staff friendly and I would recommend booking with Kapnos Airport Shuttle when in Cyprus.

LCA

Larnaca Airport is fairly small, but bright, clean and easy to navigate. I was 9 hours early, as Kapnos only runs two buses per day in the winter. I had to take the morning one, as the evening would have arrived at the airport too late for my flight.

Being a budget traveller, I had packed up some food from my flat, and that is what I munched on all day instead of purchasing airport food. I did however have a cup of tea and a bottle of water which cost €7.50 ($11 CAD). Ouch.

Emirates

My first flight of the day was in the evening from LCA to DXB on an Emirates Boeing 777-300. Truth time. This was the most expensive flight of my entire year of travel, by far. And it was the second to worst. I will not be flying with Emirates any time soon. Staff were cordial, not friendly. Food was atrocious on this flight and the next. Fatty beef, liquid potato, cheapest frozen veg, tasteless pasta salad, bland white fluff for dessert. For what I paid and for the reputation I thought they had, I expected so much better.

The landing in Dubai was the second worst of the entire year of travel. Passengers gasped, grabbed onto their armrests. My left shoulder and arm were slammed into the window beside me. It was awful. No bueno Emirates.

DXB

Dubai Airport was a super quick turnaround. We left Larnaca 1 hour and 10 minutes late due to a thunderstorm directly over the airport. I only had a 2 hour and 5-minute layover in Dubai, so that was cut in half. I rushed to find a washroom, and then my next gate.

There was not a whole lot of time to wander and take pictures, but the airport is fairly benign, at least the portion I was in this night.

DXB to BKK

Flying with Emirates again on this leg to Bangkok, this time on a double decker, Airbus A380, big boy. Seats are really comfy and roomy. Food was atrocious, one meal of egg, unrecognizable meat, tasteless extras. Not cool for the price paid.

The flight was just over 6 hours to Bangkok, right through the night. Left DXB at 2am and arrived into BKK around noon. Had a peach next to me that over shot his seating for the duration of the flight. Dang. Oh well.

Bangkok oh Bangkok, you are getting a whole post to yourself.

Two thirds the way through this travel day, and still upright if a little dizzy and woozy.
