Bulgaria is known for its glorious roses and the making of rose oil. Walking around the city, I notice roses everywhere, and have taken so many photos, I have created a post. But what about all of the other floral varieties? Here are some of the prettiest flowers in Plovdiv that I have seen thus far.

Hydrangeas
I was not expecting to see so many hydrangeas here. I’m not sure what formed that impression, regardless, they are everywhere, and so very lovely with their big colourful blossoms.

Hydrangeas have always been a favourite of mine, especially the periwinkle blue variety. They are stunning.
Geraniums
Oh, the geraniums! My goodness, the bright vivid colours that these plants provide is glorious. I see them mostly used in window boxes, and when set against a beautiful Bulgarian Revival house, the scene is so romantic.
St. Johns Wort
Another flower I was not expecting to see here. They are quite common where I am from in Canada, sometimes used as a type of ground cover, as they can become quite thick. Their bright yellow blossoms are very pretty and unique.

Lavender
Well, I know there are fields upon fields of lavender growing in the area. I passed them on my way from the airport on my very first day. What a sight! I also see lavender, which is currently in bloom, in many public garden areas.

I was able to purchase a few small bunches from a lovely older lady outside the market, and the scent inside my flat is divine.
Clematis
I am just noticing these flowers now. I have only seen the deep purple variety, and they are in full bloom. So gracious climbing here and there and creating a wall of colour.

Other Flowers
I am so happy to be back in a city that is full of colour and has such an obvious love of natural areas. I pass public gardens full of flower beds, small roadside beds and private spaces, where the flowers are spilling out onto the sidewalk.

You bet, I am always stopping to take a photograph, or lean over and ‘smell the roses’. There are so many bugs here in Plovdiv, I have learned to be careful and check the flower first though. 😊🦋🪳🐝🐞

I know my camera roll will fill up with many more flower photos yet. And I don’t have a problem with that. Flowers make me so happy. The colour, the scent, the amazing feat of nature that they are, I love them. Always have, and always will.
