Wow have I ever had the pleasure of consuming some delicious eats here in Vietnam. As a budget traveller, I have been strict while living abroad, not eating at restaurants, for the costs will quickly blow my budget. However, here in Vietnam, the prices have been so reasonable, I have been able to indulge. Delicious Vietnamese food in Hue City has been spot on.

Why Not? Bar & Restaurant

I started my first evening here, with the intention of just having a beer. Soon I realized I was hungry and what better food to snack on than crispy Vietnamese spring rolls. So delicious! 60K dong or $3.30 CAD

Another day, after many kilometres spent exploring, I returned here and dived into a piping hot bowl of Ca Kho To, braised fish in clay pot. Absolutely stunning and a fair price of 105k dong or $5.80 CAD

Must admit I ate here multiple times as well, I just loved the vibe, friendly staff and the food was amazing. They also donate a small percentage of their profits to those in need. ๐Ÿ˜Š The first meal was dinner, Bun Thit Nuong, char grilled pork with rice noodle and peanut sauce. Yum!!! Cost for small size is 50k dong or $2.75 CAD

I snuck back another day for an afternoon snack of Cha Gio Heo, fried pork spring roll and a Huda Beer, cost 60k dong or $3.30 CAD

After seeing their breakfast menu, I knew I needed to try the mango bowl or Xoai To. It was so refreshing and filling and paired with a Vietnamese tea, was the perfect start to the day. 80k dong or $4.40 CAD

Tiem O Banh Mi

Anyone visiting Vietnam needs to have at least one, if not multiple Banh Miโ€™s. These are a traditional street snack and consist of a large crispy bun, filled with either egg or meat. The stands are everywhere.

Accompanying the protein is a sweet mayo, magic brown paste (tastes a bit pooey but in a good way ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’ฉ), fresh bright cilantro, a sprig of green onion, one spear of cucumber, and a large drizzle of liquid soy like sauce. Oh man, these are heavenly.

Whilst in Hue, and with morning coffee break, I snacked on a Banh Mi from Tiem O Banh Mi. Cost 10k dong or $.55 cents CAD. Dude.

La Boulangerie Francaise

Yes, strange stop while in Vietnam, however, the story behind this place is charming. It is actually a French bakery and pastry school that started in 1998. Two Vietnamese scientists began supporting a foster centre for street children in Hue.

As a way of providing them with training and a prosperous life, they hired two French bakers to run the school. The first class of 10 students graduated in 1999. Since then, 90% of the operating costs of the school and bakery have been covered by visitors purchasing the products baked by the students.

Since 2019, 95 students have graduated and 96% are employed in 4- or 5-star establishments. Wow, how cool! I enjoyed a croissant and coffee and a fresh squeezed lime juice while I sat in the upstairs patio and wrote postcards to my three beautiful children. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hue Night Market Street Food at Ut Pho

After a stroll through the big market near the citadel, it was time to find some food. The place that was smoking busy was where I chose. Two main dishes are being served here, noodles or rice. With a sensitive tummy the last few days, I chose rice.

Was it ever delicious! Full of prawns and so very tasty, this rice at Ut Pho is cooked by the father of a fourth-generation family running this very stand on the side of the street here in Hue City. 25K dong or $1.40 CAD

Of course, there were many more places I stopped in for delicious Vietnamese coffee and even more where I partook of snacks and meals, but alas this post is already too long. Canโ€™t say I have had a single bad meal here in Vietnam. ๐Ÿ˜
