I came for the cherry blossoms, I will admit. That was the planned highlight of my trip. What I found even more beautiful, were the gorgeous spring flowers of Japan. I was not expecting to see so many, bright and exquisite blooms as I did.

Pink

Camellias! My gosh, I have never seen as many camellias as I have here in Japan. Not only is the size of the flower most magnificent, but the variegated petals and number of blossoms on a plant. Stunning.

Pansies! I had almost forgotten entirely about beautiful pansies. A true lover of these little faces from back home in Canada, they are every where here, smiling up at the sky with such simplicity and sweetness.

The peonies in the Gion District of Kyoto, as big as my head! Wow, were they ever magnificent, and a marvellous precious interaction with an Okasan as I admired here collection in front of her geisha boarding house.

Purple

Hyacinth, at one time my favourite flower, the fragrance so intoxicating. Not only were there the wee little grape variety, but also the big bulb flowers close to the ground. How pretty.

And pansies, not just the regular beauties everyone is used to but I saw this frilly variety for the first time ever! How glorious are these I ask you?

Can’t forget exotic clematis and Easter irises. Both so pretty.

Yellow

Daffodils, daisies and ranunculus, so bright and mimickers of sunshine. Look at these beautiful bright goddesses and tell me these donโ€™t make you smile.

White

Daisies, narcissus and iris, oh my! The beauty and innocence of white flowers is divine. Yes, I am always drawn to colour it seems, but white captivates me equally. Have a look at these incredible blooms and see if they donโ€™t fill you with joy.

Other

One of my all-time favourite flowers, hellebore’s, such a unique beauty, shy, always turned and facing the ground. But so exquisite in her uniqueness.

Unusual flowers, I have not seen before, ever, I am always pleased when I discover these. Having no idea what they are, but admiring their scent, shape, unintentional presence and often times, introverted-ness.

I will never tire of photographing flowers. It is a passion that brings me such joy. Flowers are natures candy, its life force and food. There is so much power in a flower, a fragile, delicate and fleeting entity. For me, pure bliss.
