Like many beach destinations, there are so many to choose from here. I quickly gravitated to specific ones though, throughout my stay. My favourites and the best beaches of Paphos are three, and they are all quite unique and special.

The Best Beaches of Paphos
Gorgeous Venus Beach in Paphos

Venus Beach

Definitely the best sandy beach close to Paphos town is Venus Beach. Located right next to the Tombs of the Kings, this amazing and sandy beach is absolutely stunning.

Being the largest sandy beach around is one factor, but there is more. I am here during low season, Christmas time in fact, and the beach is almost empty.

The sand is a warm camel brown, fine enough to be delightful to walk on. There is virtually no garbage or litter and the space is wide, lots of room should others come down.

The crystal-clear turquoise water is just like the photoโ€™s, glorious and beautiful. It glimmers under the warm Mediterranean sunshine and I cannot take my eyes from it. There is a breakwater a little ways out, keeping the sea and sand safe for swimmers.

Alykes Beach

If you find yourself at the Paphos Harbour, walk away from the castle. In only a short while, you will come to Alykes Beach. This is a typical beach here, all rock, however at regular intervals there are ladders so that you can get safely down into the water.

This spot is very picturesque. Imagine swimming in beautiful turquoise waters and looking at a castle?! How cool is that! In the summer, it will be busy with tourists and locals all enjoying the Harbour and all that if offers. But in winter, these rocks are bare, the square is empty and I can explore this large manicured beach with freedom.

I was surprised to see quite a few swimmers in the water here. Not only is it close to the marina, but the sea is quite rough too! Donโ€™t worry though, if you really want to swim, there is a man-made salt water pool!

Cynthiana Beach

Located further afield, Cynthiana Beach is beyond Chloraka and carries the namesake of a hotel close by. While not sandy, the main part of this beach is built on a rock-hard sand knoll. In the summer time I imagine this is covered with umbrellas and beds, but in the winter, it is bare.

The best part? A natural swimming pool, complete with two ladders leading down into the gorgeous salty sea. How exquisite! Protected from the rough sea yet open just enough to fill constantly with clear water.

This coastline here in Paphos is gorgeous. I can walk for miles and miles, over rough terrain and sand, exploring to my hearts content. I donโ€™t think I would ever tire of coming down to the seaside and wandering around, having a swim and enjoying the peace and beauty that is Paphos.
