I love shopping. So many things catch my eye from artwork to food products. Walking around a new area can take so long for all the stops and starts, for there are always things I must look at! ๐Ÿ˜Š Tempting shopping in downtown Sayulita has been both interesting and surprising.

Tempting Shopping in Downtown Sayulita

The Shoppers

There is quite a varying demographic here in town, people from all walks of life. From the down and out hippy surviving from day to day to the affluent clientele who have rented at one of the luxury boutique hotels and are here to relax in a popular and vibrant town. As for the residents, it seems there is an equal range. I can walk around and see people sleeping in tents on the beach or in a bush and others who reside on Gringo Hill or North End in larger stately homes.

Therefore, what is for sale generally reflects what the shoppers are willing to spend.

Products for sale

For the multitude of tourists visiting, are the vendors selling the usual Mexican fare, such as souvenir arts and crafts, blankets, trinkets, etc. These items are beautiful in their own right, however once you have travelled Mexico for a while, you will see that these exact same items are available everywhere.

There is a hippy market down near the baseball field in the downtown neighbourhood. A shopper can find not only the usual souvenir items, but vendors selling crystals, jewellery, incense and smoke sticks and various types of bohemian clothing.

Downtown a shopper can find some very exclusive local merchants and art galleries. Products such as ultra modern Scandinavian style pottery, finely crafted jewellery, and a lot of boutique clothing with extraordinary price tags for such a small town. Beautiful clothing for sure, but targeted to specific clientele.

Several stores sell organic items, from food to shampoo, as well as grains, herbs and seeds. Most of these items are beautifully packaged and again targeting a specific audience. My favourite of these stores is Terrenal located on the highway to Punta de Mita.

Groceries

There are no large grocery stores here. Food products can be purchased from a local tienda (like a mom and pop shop) or an OXXO or Kiosko (like a 711 back home). There are a few produce stands with lovely fruits and veg, and two stores that are selling western grocery products at a premium. Many people who are visiting for any length of time, go out of town to Bucerius for example and do a large grocery stock up at one of the mega grocery stores. Then simply taxi back to Sayulita.

Every time I am wandering around downtown, I am delighted by what I see that I havenโ€™t noticed on a previous trip. There really are so many things to shop for even if its just window shopping. With the eclectic mix of visitors and residents, comes an eclectic mix of items to purchase.
