A Lucky Day

Today was a marvellous morning to catch the sunrise at Puerto Morelos beach.

As I was walking to the beach this morning, I saw a coin on the sidewalk. I bent to pick it up and a young Mexican man said ‘Lucky’. I turned and said “Si Lucky!” for it was a 1 peso coin. We both laughed. It was a tiny magical unexpected moment. In Canada we no longer have a penny so gone are the days of finding a lucky penny. Not so here in beautiful Mexico! What a perfect start to any day.

In Playa del Carmen, just down the coast a ways, the beach has eroded lately, so much so that the water is lashing the concrete bases of the buildings. Visitors and locals alike are having difficulty finding places to set up their umbrellas for the day. Here is PoMo the beach is huge! I’ve been living here for just over a month now and its the widest I have seen it to date.

Lots of action this morning too, so many birds, tons of boats getting ready to head out for the day. Fishermen returning with their catch. Many divers loading up their crafts with oxygen tanks and gear. People set up all along the beach lost in meditation. A yoga class was stretching up on one of the wooden platforms. There was that amazing breeze, keeping bugs at bay and skin cool. At 7am it was already 25 degrees (celsius) with a high today of 30, so the breeze is fantastic.

As I was meandering along the shore line, I was able to get some photo’s of the bird life. I have been unsuccessful until now, but today was my lucky peso day.

Sargassum

You will notice in the photo’s there is some sargassum that has washed ashore. Its really not too bad. The strip is about 2 feet wide and the tractor was out clearing it away. Unlike in the summer months where the sargassum can be in the water as well, this time of year it is not. The water is simply clear and beautiful. So once you jump over that little bit at the shore, the swimming is glorious!

Adios amigos.
