Yโall know how much I love markets around the globe. I happened to find the one in my vicinity, and lucky me, it wasnโt too far away from my flat. Shopping at the Duck Pond Market in Paphos is interesting, Iโll give it that!
Location
Iโm staying in the village of Chloraka and the Duck Pond market is located closer to me than to the town of Paphos. On Nikoloau Pentara Street you will know you are in the right place as the streets become chock-a-block with vehicles all parked to attend the market. It also shows up on Google Maps, so super easy to find. Opening times are every Wednesday & Sunday from 8am to 2pm.
Antiques
The best part of the market for me was definitely perusing the tables with antiques and vintage items, namely the jewellery. I was not surprised to see quite a bit of china, as there is a large British population here on the island. It was after all, governed by the Brits for a period of around 100 years.
Indoor
Divided into two area, there is an indoor part and an outdoor space. Inside, are rows upon rows of tables, many with clothing, household goods and lots of books (many of which are in English! ๐).
Outdoor
The space outside is rather chaotic, this is not a glamorous market in the least. Many vendors have their items haphazardly piled upon tables; others simply use the gravel ground.
Shoppers will find gobs of clothing, tools, electronics, nick-nacks and well, anything and everything really.
I found one produce vendor who I happily purchased from, beautiful mandarins, figs, carrots and an onion. Prices were very good here.
Feeling nibbly? There is a cafeteria on site, complete with sitting area. Because it was close to Christmas, mulled wine and mince pies were on the menu de jour.
This is a very active and fun little market. It is not loud like other European ones, no vendors yelling to attract people to their table. No, it was quite civilized if a bit messy. Think thrift shop, turned flea market and a little bit of anything goes. ๐
