In an effort to help others planning to travel or explore overseas, I will document my expenses for each country I lived in during the 2023 year. I didn’t keep records for the first 2.5 months in Mexico as almost everything was paid for in cash. Beginning with the next destination, here are my budget travel expenses for Tivat – 10 days. (Montenegro)

Budget Travel Expenses for Tivat Montenegro

Things To Note

All prices are in Canadian dollars and these destinations were ones I stayed at for more than one week. I consider myself a budget traveller and am frugal as I can be without forgoing too much comfort and privacy. I will always stay in my own place, for safety, I don’t book ‘room only’ or multi dorm hostels.

Food costs included in ‘groceries’ are everything purchased from a grocery store or market, so wine, beer, all food, toiletries, cleaning products, water etc.

Accommodation

I stayed in an Airbnb right in Tivat. The location was excellent and the host was great. The flat was spacious, top floor, incredible balcony and views, everything worked, but it was not clean. Would I stay there again? Only if I could afford it. It was over my budget, but after Plovdiv I needed to treat myself too somewhere decent.

Breakdown

Flight from Varna $198

Accommodation (10 nights) $760

SIM card $23

Food (groceries) $169.46

Food (restaurants) $9.05

Postcards & stamps $7.85

Total expenses with accommodation $969.36

Average cost per day $96.94

Would I Return?

No, its not my vibe. Its super bougie, lots of really wealthy visitors & tourists and the prices reflect that. The luxury marina, Porto Montenegro is now owned by a group of businesses from Dubai. I will however explore more of Montenegro one day, for it is a stunningly beautiful country.

Tomorrow I’ll post Salerno Italy!
