Of all of the cities I have visited thus far, Modicans have an enchanting way of decorating the facades of their homes. There are several features that re-appear in my camera roll, and this is what I wanted to show you today. The most beautiful door decor in Modica includes mail boxes, house numbers, door hardware, curtains and plants. This post is full of photo’s, I got a little carried away. 😂
Mail Boxes
Beside most doors here, is a mailbox. Many are simple, small and metal. Some however are unique. Here are my favourites.
House Numbers
Of course, every house needs and address! I have been charmed by the number places on many of these casas. The standard seems to be a white tile with blue numbers, which in itself is so quaint and sweet. Sometimes I find ones where the owner has gone above and beyond the stand city issue. Here are my favourites.
Door Hardware
Of course, with old and ancient doors, comes old and ancient door hardware. These pieces are usually rusted and weather worn.
The door knockers are very common here, instead of door bells, especially in the historical neighbourhoods.
One thing that I love to see are the old skeleton key holes. They are huge! I cannot imagine how large the keys must have been!
Curtains
Okay, this is probably my favourite door treasure here in Modica. Many of the doors have glass panel inserts. They are usually double doors, each piece being quite narrow.
On the inside, the senora’s have added linen and lace curtains for privacy. But from the outside, look how utterly charming these are!
As I walk through town, I even see patisseries and cafés with these curtains in their doors and windows. Oh, it is so romantic and lovely. I especially like when I see a vintage or antique piece of linen or lace. I used to be a collector of such treasures, and I can spot a beauty when I see it.
Plants
Nature. Does it ever not enhance a space? From the sweetest humble tin can, to the gorgeous big terra cotta planter, these home owners are using their space outside of their doors so beautifully.
Most homes here are small. There is no yard space. There may not even be a patio. So where to grow a few herbs or flowers? Why just outside the front door of course.
The quaint and sweet doorways.
The colourful and lush doorways.
The simplistic and contemporary doorways. How I love these, the use of arid loving plants and the simplicity of empty space are so incredibly beautiful.
How amazingly gorgeous Modica is. One doesn’t need to spend a dime when they explore a city or place. Simply wander around, let yourself get lost, absorb the atmosphere and aroma of a destination. It is my favourite thing to do in all my travels, just being present and noticing what is right in front of my eyes.
