Puerto Vallarta has a staggering number of excellent restaurants. Just about any type of cuisine you fancy, you will be able to find here. And not only find, but the food will be really good! The city has definitely become a foodies paradise. Looking for the best Al Pastor tacos in town? I’ll give you four suggestions of my very favourite places.

Pancho’s Takos

Of course visitors to Mexico will likely want to eat the local cuisine. Taco’s are right up there as a top contender. For not only are they flipping delicious but they are inexpensive and easy to find. Pancho’s Takos is located at Basilio Badillo 162 in Old Town Puerto Vallarta. They are extremely popular and will always have a line of hungry peeps waiting to get a seat. Opening at 4pm every day, expect the line to be building from 3pm onward until closing.

Al Pastor tacos are made from seasoned and marinated pork that is cooked on a rotating spit next to open flame. The above photograph was taken while waiting in line for Pancho’s to open last week. The meat is being added to the spit right up until opening time at 4:00pm. Each and every day, this spit is loaded with succulent fresh pork, taking two hours to create!

While in line, you may be given the menu on which you write what you want and hand it in. Once seated you are brought a pottery dish with 4 types of sauces and an extra dish of extremely spicy onions and diced habanero peppers. I cannot stress enough how spicy this extra little dish of goodies is! Tasters beware! When your tacos arrive, they will be piping hot and piled onto a clay dish. Each taco is absolutely loaded with juicy mouthwatering pork, cilantro and pineapple. Add sauces to your desired tastes and delve in. The moaning and groaning that will come forth from your body will match that of the patrons around you. Washed down with an ice cold cerveza, you will think you are in heaven.

Pepe’s Tacos

Pepe’s is my go to Al Pastor taco joint if I am staying close by. It is located on Calle Honduras 145 in the 5th of Decembre neighbourhood. I visit Pepe’s every time I come to town. Sometimes I’ll eat on site and other times I’ll take a steaming hot plate of goodness to the beach (only 2 short blocks away) or back home.

Oh man, these Al Pastor are amazing. The pork is a little on the drier side which I actually prefer. The smokiness from the open fire mingled with the seasoning on the pork is a match made in heaven. Add the pineapple slice with the onions and cilantro, and my oh my, happiness explodes in my mouth. Pepe’s has quite a bit of seating, so no waiting in line. The staff are friendly and fast. I’ve never had a bad meal here.

Sonorita’s & Taco Revolucion

My other two favourite taco places for Al Pastor in PV are Tacos Sonorita Olas Atlas on Pino Suarez 232 and Tacos Revolucion on Olas Atlas 485. I haven’t had the opportunity to visit either restaurant on this trip, yet, however I have walked by both and they are in business and look as good as ever. I have eaten multiple times at these establishments in the past and would return to both without a second thought.

There are so many varieties of taco’s alone, Al Pastor is a favourite of mine. I recently had family visiting me in town, and one of my simple pleasures is watching their faces light up as they bite into these delectable little gems. For me, so many of Mexico’s flavours come together in this dish. I really hope when you are next in town, you have the pleasure of enjoying this simple meal.

Taco’s forever!
