I love shopping for food. Period. Whether its from a market, corner store, road side stand, or large grocery supermarket. Everywhere I travel, I always, without fail, visit at least one large grocery store. La Comer in Fluvial, the best grocery in town, is one such large store, not to be missed when visiting Puerto Vallarta.

La Comer in Fluvial, The Best Grocery in Town

Food Shopping

Generally, I like to support the smaller mom & pop tienda’s and abarrotes while in Mexico and elsewhere. It helps me feel connected to the community I am living in and gives me a sense of the local environment and my neighbours.

However, when I am in a large city, I do go to the larger supermarkets as well. The variety of products available, how they are displayed and the prices are very interesting to me.

La Comer

La Comer is a Mexican grocery chain. They began operation in the 1930’s in Mexico City. Today, they operate a huge number of stores across the country. And let me tell you, these stores are incredible. Each one I have been in has been impressive.

If you ever want to see a grocery store, done to just about perfection, you will see it here. The Fluvial location in Puerto Vallarta is fairly new and strikingly clean. It sports a huge assortment of not only groceries but just about any other product you need for your home. It is a mega store for sure.

When I visited, I was there to shop for food, so this is the portion of the store I spent my time in. My grocery list was short but I was in there for over an hour! Walking up and down each and every isle, seeing so many things I have not seen before.

Produce

The produce was beautifully displayed, you almost didn’t want to touch anything! ๐Ÿ™‚ It was curious to me to see so many items kept behind glass doors, in almost a completely refrigerated way.

Bakery

The bakery department, well I think readers will know by now, that I am somewhat addicted to all things baking. From the separate hand made chocolates case, to the seeded loaves of bread, everything looked delicious! The rows and baskets of baked goodies was mouth watering. I could not resist a pan au chocolate and a fresh fruit tart.

Meat & Cheese

The meat department was next level. All products looked incredibly fresh and beautiful. There were multiple large displays with cheeses, preserved meets and accompanying suggested wines.

Grocery

The grocery isles were nothing short of upscale perfection. I was able to find products that I cannot find in my grocery stores at home in Canada because the variety was so large.

If you are visiting Puerto Vallarta, and are a foodie or just love all things food, I encourage you to take a trip to this amazing store. I was so impressed. The Fluvial neighbourhood is close to the Versalles area, both are up and coming places should you wish to find accommodation here.
