Ahhhhh one of my very favourite things in life is to be on a beach. Usually, I prefer a warm or hot climate and a sandy beach, but really, I’m happy on any coastal expanse. I went off course on my long walk this morning, and guess what? I found three beautiful beaches all withing walking distance of the city of Split.
Jezinac Beach
After heading down to the waterfront area of Old Town, I made a right and walked the coast line. My aim was to stroll the perimeter of Marjan Park, but I got relayed once I saw I could easily follow the seashore.
Jezinac Beach is the first one I came to after rounding a little point. I had perhaps walked only 15 minutes by this point. Jezinac looks like it was once quite a popular swimming area, and perhaps still is in the summer. There are very rusty and old facilities such as showers and ladders into the ocean. However, a large area looks like it is in the process of being refurbished.
This beach was all large boulders, but clearly a swimming area. The water lapping over the flat rocks would make a perfect place to sit on a hot summers day. There was even a small pool created right in the ocean beside the walkway, how cool is that?
Kastelet Beach
The next little bay just past Jezinac is Kastelet Beach. Here the rocks are more like pebbles and when I saw small patches of actual sand, my shoes came off in a heartbeat.
I was in that absolutely crystal-clear cold water before I knew it. Wow, I will definitely go for a full swim when the temperatures rise a little. The water was glorious!
This beach was a small curved bay, and all little stones and sand. I was passing through in the morning, around 9am and there was already a sunbather set up for the day.
Obojena Beach
The third little bay in this area is called Obojena Beach. Here the rocks and sand were the same as Kastalet but the water was a bit deeper. In fact, there was a man dressed head to toe in a wet suit diving down to the bottom and splashing around.
The water is deep enough here that there is a diving platform that at one time would have had a diving board extending from the end.
Between all of these beaches are piers jutting out into the Adriatic Sea, that are lined with trees and benches and covered with white crushed stones.
The city has clearly started to beautify the area even further. As well as outdoor showers there are change stalls, cans for garbage and all areas were super clean. I was so impressed and will be back as soon as the weather improves!
