I love to shop, but don’t usually buy anything as I am limited to a single suitcase which is constantly full to the brim. That doesn’t stop me from seeking out art and admiring the local handiwork surrounding me where ever I travel. There is some great shopping in Hoi An Vietnam that is both beautiful and unique.
Reaching Out Tea House
I wandered into this space, looked at one wall and noticed a sign about being silent. What I discovered was a completely quiet tea house with an incredible boutique shop at the rear. All staff are hearing impaired.
Should you wish to have tea, you will sit in the most peaceful surroundings. Any communication you need between yourself and the server is done by stamping on paper at the table.
The boutique store is full of the most beautiful handicrafts, being made right there in the back of the shop. From coffee and tea pots, to jewellery and ceramics, there are so many precious things to look at and purchase as a one-of-a-kind souvenir of Hoi An.
Art Shops
While walking around the Old Town, one will see many shops selling art of all description. Most of these are paper prints or original painting’s that can be rolled tightly and placed into a hard plastic tube for easy transportation back home.
My favourite store had many prints of cats that I was delighted to peruse.
Lantern Shops
Probably the thing that attracts most visitors to Hoi An is the lanterns. Whether you are here to light one at night on the river, take part in a festival or purchase some, they are everywhere! And wow are they ever gorgeous.
Come anytime just before dusk and watch them being lit up at each store location. They are just so endearing and pretty.
Hoi An Market
A large yellow building in the centre of Old Town is chock full of souvenirs, food and interesting things to see. Here a shopper can buy the more typical souvenirs, fill up your bag with delicious local fruits in season or just walk around and look at all of the unique items for sale.
If you are coming to Hoi An for the first time, you won’t find any shortage of shops. It really is a shopper’s paradise here in Vietnam. Many travellers are coming to get clothing made and you will be completely surrounded by these types of stores too. Take your time, have a wander and let yourself get lost in the beautiful streets of Hoi An. You never know what treasure you will find to take home.
