Yesterday was a travel day for me, a change of locations within Mexico. I was flying from Cancun to Mexico City on Aeromexico for the first leg of the journey.
Getting to CUN
I woke up way to early, always do on a travel day. It turns out it was a blessing in disguise. As I was sipping my warm cup of joe, I was perusing a travel forum just in case there were any local issues that I was unaware of. Not expecting anything to arise, I was alarmed to read that there was a potential problem. Unbenounced to me, the state taxi syndicate was protesting yesterday, from Cancun to Tulum. Aaaggghh, that means little to no taxi service for the day, possible road blockages, and I had to travel 30 minutes from Puerto Morelos to Cancun airport.
So after a quick shower and cramming last minute articles into an already bursting suitcase, I was headed out to the street in the dark, to see if I could hail a cab. Well lucky me times two, my favourite gate man, whom I had bought pastries for a week prior (just cause he is so lovely), was coming on shift. This dear man, jumped into the street and flagged down the lone taxi on the road, who did not even have his in-service lights on. He spoke with the driver who agreed to give me a lift to the airport! Hallelujah!!!
Needless to say, I arrived at the airport in Cancun 5 hours before my flight, but ever so gratefully so. On the way we passed a looooong line of taxi’s on the highway to Cancun. They were meeting and forming their procession.
CUN Terminal 4
I flew out of Terminal 4. It is super clean and organized. Before security there is a Starbucks at one end and a convenience store at the other. Once through security, be prepared for really high prices! I travel a lot, I know airports are expensive but Cancun was on a different level. Usually I can source something reasonably priced, but not this time. The cheapest water I could find was $8CAD and the cheapest sandwich was $17CAD. There were baked goods like croissants etc and they started at $8CAD each. Wowzers.
Leaving CUN
Flying out of Cancun was gorgeous of course. The Yucatan peninsula seen from above is breathtaking.
Arriving into Mexico City
The first leg of my travels that day was from Cancun to Mexico City. Now I knew Mexico City was a huge city but I had no idea really. The sky was quite hazy, but I was really taken aback by the enormity of the city.

MEX Terminal 2
I found MEX Terminal 2 really easy and straightforward to navigate. There were a lot of airport personnel that were more than happy to answer questions and direct folks to the correct areas. Really good free airport wifi was available, however there were very few charging areas. It was a busy airport for sure, but more than enough places to find food, drinks and shopping. The prices in fact were quite reasonable. Perhaps half of what the costs of Cancun Airport were. I had time to devour a margarita pizza and Tecate Amber cerveza which came to $20CAD.
All in all, it was a really great travel day! Everything worked out just fine. The flights were on time, the planes were clean and comfortable. It was just what you want from a day of travel and transit.
