There are many reasons why people flock to Mexico. Friendly people, sunshine, warmth and food are just a few attractions that bring millions of visitors here every year. One of the more prominent reasons for me is the love and uninhibited use of colour. From the colours of the houses, to the colours of the fruit, everywhere is bursting with vividness. The beautiful flowers of Puerto Morelos are no exception.
I have lived so long in an area that is mostly shades of grey. Grey skies, grey buildings, grey cars, you get the idea. So when I started coming to Mexico my eyes almost felt assaulted by the colours.
Gardens
I used to be an avid gardener. Looking back, what attracted me the most was the bright colours that I would see, smell, feel and taste from the flowers that I could grow. Here in Puerto Morelos, there are flowers everywhere, in ditches, growing out of cracks in the sidewalk, along the walls and fences surrounding each casa and overflowing from peoples gardens. These flowers are not found only in Puerto Morelos, they are common tropical flowers found in many regions of the world. But here, they flourish!
Some like the plumeria have the prettiest sweet smell, while others have no fragrance at all. Lets not overlook the foliage either, it can be astonishing, ranging from white to the deepest chocolate magenta. Walking down the streets in Puerto Morelos, take the time to admire nature in all of its glory, you will see it everywhere!
These photographs were taken in the first couple of days upon my arrival. I will make future posts with addition gems that I have since discovered.
Enjoy!
