After arriving into Tivat airport and heading for my flat for the next week, I had to go out and explore. I was on the lookout for the necessary groceries and drinks, and I needed a SIM card too. Here are my first impressions of Tivat Montenegro.

First Impressions of Tivat Montenegro

Friendly

Oh wow, what a breath of fresh air after spending almost three months in Bulgaria. The people here are so friendly and nice to me! Well, most of them anyways. The first thing on my to-do list was acquire the all-important SIM card. I ended up getting so much help and helpful info from the lady at the end of my block who runs the little tobacco stand. She was amazing!

Then on the return to my flat with groceries in tow, I spotted a bakery close by. I went in and am now friends with the bakery lady! She is absolutely lovely. I think the biggest difference truth be told, is people here can speak English with no problem. They are warm, and inquisitive, not sour and cold.

Beautiful

You would not believe how gorgeous it is here. My goodness, the scenery is stunning! Tivat is located in the Bay of Kotor and is surrounded on all sides by mountains. Between the sunshine, mountains, turquoise waters and palm trees, well, itโ€™s a paradise for sure!

Walkable

The streets are paved and the sidewalks are in great shape. I can walk everywhere here without any hesitation. I feel safe, the town is clean and the traffic seems to stop for me when I approach a crosswalk.

The area down at the seaside is a developed promenade, and my is it ever beautiful. A walkers dream come true.

The Vibe

The vibe here is soft, friendly, calm and lovely. There is no shouting, no dour faces. People walk around enjoying the warmth of the sun. They bathe in the crystal-clear waters and have such a seemingly stress-free nature. For the first time in a long while, I have people saying good morning and hello to me before I say anything to them. In fact, Iโ€™m rather gun shy at the moment, after spending so long in Bulgaria. I will have to get used to smiling again and looking people in their friendly faces.

I canโ€™t wait to explore further afield here in Tivat. Iโ€™m ready for this level and warmth and hospitality. I didnโ€™t realize how much I had missed connecting with humans. So far so good, Iโ€™m under the spell of the Montenegrin sun. โ˜บ๏ธ
