By far, the better coastal area in Budva is Becici. Still part of the same municipality, this is where the city shines. This extensive seaside beach is classier, cleaner and offers visitors a better experience than Slovenska Beach in Budva. Come explore beautiful Becici Beach in Montenegro and I’ll show you why its superior.
Getting There
If you are already in Budva, the easiest way by foot is to walk to the end of Slovenska Beach and go through a creepy pedestrian tunnel. Once you exit, you will see an arrow directing you to the left, make your way down to the beach in behind the Iberostar Waves Resort.
There is a route to bypass the tunnel and hike over the forested point but it is better to tackle this walking from Becici back towards Budva as the trail is a little difficult to follow.
Becici Beach
At almost 2 kilometres long, this beach is a winner. In 1935 it was voted as the best beach in all of Europe. A lot has changed since then I’m sure of it, but Becici still far exceeds the beaches in Budva city.
Small areas are actual sand, coarse as it is, I cannot walk on this sand with bare feet. However, like just every other beach in Montenegro, it is predominately small pebbles in most places. This is not a good beach for walking, as the pebbles and rocks are so slippery, your feet sink in with every step. It becomes labour intensive and impossible to keep up any pace.
The water is clear and clean, and the temperature is warm but still crisp enough to feel refreshing. Water shoes are a must if you plan to swim.
Clubs
Just like Slovenska, Becici is lined with beach clubs. They alternate with public space for people wishing to simply come down and lay out a blanket. Prices at these range from €10 to €30 for a chair and umbrella for the day, exact same prices at Slovenska Plaza in the city.
Becici clubs can be part of larger resorts that lay just behind the beach; however, plenty are independent. So pretty and clean are these clubs, they make for exceptional photos against the Adriatic Sea.
Esplanade
In most places the esplanade is wide and clean. One can walk the entire length of the bay on this paved path. One small section has a carnival like entertainment area that is much cleaner than Slovenska. Here kids will enjoy some games and small rides.
Towards the far end of Becici, visitors will find a series of restaurants and café’s along both sides of the esplanade. Here enjoy a beautiful meal or cocktail in the shade of the large trees.
St. Thomas Church
A favourite part of this beach is the little church that is up on a small hill, right off the esplanade. This is St. Thomas and the views from up here are breathtakingly beautiful.
The Town
There really isn’t much of one to be fair. Over 800 permanent residents live here, visitors will find bakeries and grocery shops, but if you are needing supplies or the mall, it would be best to head into Budva for that.
Brand new high-rises are being built in amongst the existing large resorts but none are the eye sores that are currently being erected in Budva city right at the beachfront.
If I ever return to the area, it will be Becici Beach that I stay. One can easily walk to Old Town in Budva in 40 minutes, the only reason in my opinion, to go into Budva at all. This beautiful beach area is peaceful, pretty and clean, everything you might look for in a relaxing holiday destination.
