There are four main areas that make up the largest portion of the town of Sayulita, Mexico. They are Downtown, Gringo Hill, North End and South End. Today I was checking out North End & Nanzal in Sayulita. It was leg workout day, that’s for sure! ๐Ÿ™‚

Checking Out North End & Nanzal in Sayulita
The View from the top of North End

Av. del Palmar

Av. del Palmar is one long road that extends almost the length of the town and is the road closest to the beach running just about parallel. At the furthest southern end you will find the neighbourhood of South End and conversely you can walk all the way to the other end on the North side.

Av. del Palmar at the school heading north

All of the roads that intersect with Palmar at the north end as well as Calle Juan Escutia are what make up the North End and Nanzal neighbourhood.

Palmar itself is fairly flat until you get towards the end, however the roads intersecting and especially the roads off of Calle J. Escutia get very steep very fast. The entire neighbourhood is built on a hillside. Have some good walking shoes and be prepared for a leg work out!

Casa’s and Accommodation

This neighbourhood is mostly residential. There are a couple of coffee shops or small restaurants, but that is the extent of the commercialism. On the beach side of Av. Palmar are some beautiful upscale small boutique resorts, really lovely but costly for sure. This is a great area to stay in when you are visiting should you need uninterrupted sleep. It is lovely and peaceful with birds chirping and the sound of waves crashing at the shoreline.

The streets intersecting Av. Palmar are residential. The neighbourhood is definitely more affluent than the other neighbourhoods in Sayulita, but the homes were not as amazing and grandiose as I was expecting. Most are quite understated, with not a lot of decoration or adornment. There is quite a bit of new construction going on as well.

Look at that beautiful arch!
Loving that sweet juliette balcony

Normally I find the higher I walk in a neighbourhood, the more lavish and grand the houses become. I did not find that here, in fact it was almost the opposite. The higher homes were newly constructed and very large but looked unfinished. They were all definitely being lived in though, for there was laundry hanging to dry, vehicles in the parking areas, and visible signs of domestication.

There were a few flowers here and there, but really quite an understated experience as far as flora and fauna goes.

The Streets

The streets themselves are very well groomed for local small town standards. Most are fairly clean and easy to walk. The cobblestones often had some form of concrete in between them making them sturdy and reliable to step on.

The view from the top of the mountainside was amazing of course, looking out over the vast blue pacific ocean. A lot of tall three growth is present so I only saw one clear unimpeded view of the water.

My favourite casa and door from this day’s exploration

It is an interesting neighbourhood to explore for sure. Visitors will be very happy if they chose this area to stay, for it is so lovely and quiet. Far enough away from the hustle and bustle of downtown but still within walking distance of restaurants and night life. I’ll be back to explore this are further, my legs will thank me. ๐Ÿ™‚
