This is something I really enjoy seeing here. Charismatic hand painted Mexican business signs. Sometimes these paintings will fill an entire wall, sometimes a small logo near the name of the enterprise. They are unique, striking and often times really, really well done. A piece of art for sure.
Barber Shops
So far on my walks in Puerto Morelos, I have passed two barber shops that stand out for different reasons. The first one is called Nikboy Barber Studio on J. Zetina Gasca. The red, black and white logo initially caught my eye because the image of the male looks exactly like Alicia McCarvell’s husband Scott. I have always admired Alicia’s tiktoks, which is where I primarily see her. She is a brilliant gal, a role model for all women.
The second barber shop is called the Wolf Barber Shop II on Ave. Timon. Painted is one entire wall with a huge black and grey scale wolf face, its extraordinary!
Food Establishments
There are so many eateries in Puerto Morelos, everything from Italian to Indian, Korean and of course a wide range of Mexican places. You may not think a little fishing village such as this would have such offerings but in fact there is quite a little foodie scene here. Many of these have hand painted logos outside their business that are utterly charming. Lets see, there is Taqueria El Vecino giving you a hang ten and a wink. The Fish Market Restaurant down at the seaside serving up the fresh catch of the day. Visit Tortilleria Salmos for all you tortilla needs. You cannot miss this super bright yellow and orange building on Ave. Timon. There is always a line in the morning.
I was walking in the opposite direction than my usual walk yesterday. It took me deeper into the colonias. I passed a sandwich shop called Los Sheshes and their logo was soooo creative! Have a look! Just like that, a huge astronaut on an entirely white wall.
Lastly I will leave you with a few pictures of my new favourite fruteria called Pachamama. I came across this little gem a few days ago. I bought my fresh squeezed orange juice, one litre for $25 Pesos and it was delicious! The ladies behind the counter have been so lovely and friendly to me. There is a big logo on the exterior beside the rolling door and the inside walls are covered with richly coloured fruits and veg. I just love it!!
Over the coming weeks I will amass more of these delightful murals and logos that are associated with the local businesses. I was hoping to be able to link a website to them for you the reader, but alas, none of them have a website. I’ll add any further information that I can in the hopes that future visitors will frequent the businesses instead of the bigger chain stores.
Happy day!
