Yโ€™all know how much I love animals and stop to talk to just about anything I see. Well, I couldnโ€™t leave Croatia without showing all of the cute cats, dogs & critters in Split that I encountered over the past month.

Cats, Dogs & Critters in Split

Cats

Oh my, there are quite a few cats around town! I saw none in distress though. All look well fed, healthy and where they are supposed to be. There are of course feral cats, but I saw locals feeding and providing water to them all.

The cats here are shy and skittish for the most part. Not many let me get close to take a photograph and even fewer came to me when I knelt down and spoke with them. I must have looked a lunatic, for the people of Split didnโ€™t seem to pay any attention to the cats around the neighbourhoods.

Dogs

There are plenty of dogs in town. All with owners. I didnโ€™t see a single dog that I thought might have been a stray. Of the doggo’s I saw, some were unusual breeds that I donโ€™t see very often. They were all cute as can be and well behaved.

Most of the time the dogs were on leads. I did see some ball playing and freedom in parks. There is not much barking here either come to think of it. Unlike Mexico, where the dogs will bark for hours, here it is silent for the most part.

Bugs

No bugs in my flat thank goodness. But I did see these two big beetles while out walking around town. Ew.

Other

And perhaps my favourite little buddy, this snail. I was hiking through Marjan Park on a rainy day. He was attempting to cross the hiking trail. Stormin’ Norman was at risk of getting trod on, so I waited with him and made sure he made it across the path without incident.

Of the birds I could see singing away, the only ones that let me take their picture were the sassy seagulls.

Animals bring me so much joy. They spark happiness every day I am lucky enough to see and interact with them. Little cuties.
