I had previously explored the beaches near Split heading towards Marjan Park. This morning I walked down to the Riva Waterfront and turned left instead of right. What I found were beautiful sandy beaches near Split. I knew all the beaches were not rock and stone, but I hadn’t yet found the sandy ones.

Bacvice Beach

After walking down to the waterfront, I turned left and passed Diocletian’s Palace. I followed the Riva Waterfront to the ferry terminals. At this point, I had to detour up onto the nearest road and not five minutes further, I was heading down a staircase and onto Bacvice Beach.

A portion of this beach is a concrete jetty, which seems to be the norm here. Up on this raised platform is an outdoor gym where I see people working out in the mornings. All along the jetty and at the very end are ladders providing access into the Adriatic Sea for a swim.

Curled around the other two sides of this little bay is the dark grey/brown sandy beach. The sand is very soft, but was not dry enough for me to see how powdery it was. The consistence was a little mud like if I’m being honest. Perfect for making sand castles. Walking the shoreline I was able to find five beautiful shells in under five minutes. There was a substantial amount of sea grass today and a bit of trash lying about.

The water is zero entry for quite a while into the sea, an absolutely perfect area for families and small children to swim. In fact, when I was returning home this morning, and passed by for a second time, the beach was already filling up with people.

Concrete Beach

Yes, this is in fact the correct name. There is a tiny actual beach area of small white stones, very beautiful and picturesque looking back towards Split harbour. A cruise ship was in port and combined with the crystal-clear turquoise water was such a pretty sight.

Past this little beach area and jetty is a narrow strip of concrete, no different than any other beach area. It curves around this little bay forming the area of ‘Concrete Beach’. When the path widens out, there are three lovely little restaurants and lots of seating. This would be a fun spot to come for an afternoon swim and bevvie at the seaside.

Firule Beach

Walking past the restaurants will bring you around into the next little bay which has an even better sandy beach than Bacvice. It is smaller in size, but there is virtually no sea grass, the water is nice and shallow and the sand was a lot cleaner. Same colour sand, but it looked less mucky.

Firule is a sweet little alcove, almost hidden, but I could tell that it is a favourite swim area for the older locals. They were already in the water or drying off on a bench, soaking up some warm Croatian sunshine.

I kept walking and just past Firule is a large marina and not passable without going up onto the road.

This is as far as you can walk before you must go up to a road to circumnavigate the large marina

All in all, this walk was about 2.5 kilometres long from the far side of the Riva to Firule. I only had to go up onto a road once, and that was to get from the ferry terminal area in Split to Bacvice beach. Otherwise, the entire walk is along the shore. It is gorgeous, so beautiful smelling the fresh sea air, listening to the birds and seeing people out and enjoying this amazing coastal path. As an early morning run, this would be perfect.
