I have been walking away from my house in a different direction each day, to try and see what is available around this area. I am deep in a residential neighbourhood and I walk about 20 minutes before I see anything besides apartment buildings. One place I have found that I adore is the beautiful promenade at Konyaalti Beach. It takes me half an hour to reach, but oh so worth it!
Getting There
Simply walk towards the seaside, and you will invariably have to cross this promenade area to reach the water. The length of Konyaalti Beach is 13 kilometres! Yes you read that right. I don’t know how long the promenade is, but so far, I have not found either end!
The Promenade
From what I have discovered, it is extensive, wide and multifaceted. On the far side away from the water is a cobblestone street that is lined with restaurants, cafés and many hotels. This is definitely a tourist area but enjoyed by locals just the same.
Walking path
The whole expanse is raised above the level of the beach. For as long as I can see in either direction, there is a wide walking path closest to the sand lined with soaring palm trees.
At regular intervals, one side bumps out towards the sea and there are platforms with benches and beautiful views of the Taurus Mountain range.
Centre Area
Beside the walking path, down the centre is any number of activity focused things. I have seen basketball courts, several outdoor gyms, many playgrounds, large seating area’s, café’s and more.
Today I passed two outdoor exercise classes at various points along the walk. There is a dog park too!
Road Side
On the other side of the widest middle median, is a rubber running path. Beside that a bicycle, scooter and roller skate path.
On the other side of these is parking, and then the road in front of the hotels.
The Konyaalti promenade would have been a huge undertaking and I applaud the city for creating such an amazing outdoor space. So many people are using this beautiful area, mothers with prams, lots of runners and walkers, tourists enjoying the scenery etc. It has quickly become my favourite space in Konyaalti.
