Every town and city I have travelled to in Mexico has an abundance of extraordinary murals painted in all parts of town, the tourist areas and the residential areas. Sayulita I have to say is the odd ball here. There are murals, but they are few and far between. Let’s have a look at Sayulita’s murals.

A Look at Sayulita's Murals

Traditional

There are only a hand full of large size murals in town. Many of what I have photographed are small murals, paintings on exterior retail store and hotel walls. I am really surprised at the lack of murals in Sayulita. It would be the perfect town for added character and charm and there is certainly enough talent here.

Of the murals I can fully see and photograph, many are traditional ones representing Mexico and its roots. They are really quite lovely and fit well with the colourful flags flying over the streets.

I love this one of Frida. It is actually inside the garage area of a house.

I love the iconic subject matter such as skulls, skeletons, Frida Kahlo and the like. They have a super fun vibe and are lively and bright.

Three Large Murals

Of the murals that I can photograph without something blocking the view, there are very few. The three below represent large scale paintings, one on the side of a building and the latter two on concrete fence walls.

Murals on Businesses & Casa’s

Below are five more obstructed murals, still worth the photograph as they are all beautiful for sure.

Wacky Murals

This last grouping are mostly small murals that are on the front of business doors or walls. Many on shuttered doors are only visible early in the morning before the businesses open for the day. Once the shutters are rolled up and doors opened, they are tucked away until nightfall.

That almost exhausts my photographs of the murals around town. I have been here for three weeks, and have gone up and down every single street in town, some multiple times. If there are more murals, they are either so heavily obstructed from view or I am blind. ๐Ÿ™‚ The latter is possible, lol.

My favourite! This is Sayulita after all.
