The coastline around Tivat is a swimmer’s paradise. The water is crystal clear and oh so warm and places to have a dip are numerous. While these 6 beautiful beaches of Tivat are not sandy, they are indeed amazing places to sunbathe and enjoy all the Adriatic coastline has to offer.
Belane Beach
Starting with the most southern beach at the marina in Tivat is Belane Beach. This is a typical stretch of small stones with a fairly gentle slope into the sea. Every time I walked past this beach, it was clean and popular with locals enjoying a day out in the sunshine.
Beds and umbrellas can be rented here or you can set yourself up on a piece of the public beach for the day.
Palma Beach
The next beach just north of the marina is Palma Beach. There are actually four different beaches here, side by side, and as an outsider, I cannot distinguish when one ends and the next begins. The area starts out with a little rocky shore and quickly becomes the concrete beach that is all too common here.
Now I know that sounds strange, a concrete beach, but that is just what these are. People are laying their towels and gear out on the concrete and bathing in the sea. These areas are indeed considered beaches and are named thusly.
Delfin Beach
Past Porto Montenegro, the large, new and boujie marina, is Delfin Beach. This is a lovely stretch of lighter coloured stones sloping into the clearest turquoise water, absolutely beautiful. The beach club here is called Amaia and has chairs and umbrellas for rent. It is such a pretty location and is very popular with visitors and locals alike.
Ponta Seljanovo
Located on a point that juts out into the Adriatic Sea, Ponta Seljanovo is a naturally rocky area with a small lighthouse. The views from this beach are gorgeous. Visitors can see down both sides of the Bay of Kotor and the sea is a little wilder here, but still very swimmable.
Often I see people snorkelling here, so I imagine the sea life below is interesting. There is also a handicap railing that goes into the water at this beach and a public change cubicle.
Waikiki Beach
The most gorgeous beach, in my humble opinion, in this area, is Waikiki Beach. Not only is there a beautiful beach club here with all the necessities one needs to have a great beach day, but the public area is just as nice.
The coastline has been filled in with fine white stones which sets the crystal-clear turquoise water alight. It is a stunningly beautiful beach with view of the bay to die for.
Kamelija Beach
Just beyond Waikiki is Kamelija Beach. Here the entire stretch is a wide concrete base. Ladders are spaced every so often to lower yourself into the sea. A snack bar and ice cream stand are close by as is a small restaurant for meals.
This area is packed with locals when I go by later in the day. It surprises me so much, as I just cannot wrap my mind around laying in the sun on hard concrete. But it is the norm here, I see it all the time.
If you are looking for sandy beaches, Montenegro does have some. The closest would be in Budva which is about 25 kilometres south of the beaches of Tivat. I welcome beaches of all shapes and sizes, they are beautiful in their own rights and bring people together in a way that few other landscapes do.
